Meet the Teacher

Dear Parents and Guardians,

My name is Mrs. Jean Nagel, and I will be teaching Health Education to your child this year.  I have been teaching in the Onalaska School District since 1983.  I have had the privilege of working with 3rd through 12th grade students and have taught at all 5 of our buildings.  I currently hold a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license in the following areas:  910 Health, 210 Family and Consumer Education, 213 Family/Consumer Education:  Food Services, 216 Home Economics Related Occupations. I received my undergraduate degree in Family and Consumer Education at UW Stout, Menomonie, WI, and Health Education at UW La Crosse, La Crosse, WI and my master’s degree in Professional Development at UW La Crosse, La Crosse, WI.  I am married, and we have two children.

My passion is working with middle school students.  This is a very difficult time for our children.  I enjoy watching them explore various aspects of their lives and begin developing their interests.  I feel honored to help assist them with their daily struggles and the many choices and decisions they make.

The Health Education curriculum is based on building wellness concepts at age/development appropriate times.  I try to incorporate various teaching techniques to address a variety of learners so, with effort, all students can be successful in health class.   I also try to build a “comfort zone” with the students so they can feel at ease talking about “uncomfortable” topics.  My classroom expectations include: respect, responsibility, honesty, choices, effort, and decision making.

To better accommodate the needs and schedules of our parents, a web site was designed in an effort to make the information presented to students available to all parents.  Copies of this information are also available in the OMS office.  By making an appointment, I am available to meet with you at various times throughout the school day, or at Parent/Teacher/Student conferences, and open house.

Throughout the course of the year, I will teach all the students at OMS.  If you have any concerns/questions, you can call me at:  779-5760, ex.  4202 or email me at nagje@mail.onalaska.k12.wi.us. Please leave your name, your child’s name, unit/homeroom, the best time to reach you, and your concern.  I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Sincerely yours,

Mrs. Jean Nagel
